Ad Policies

What we allow, what we don’t, how we review, and how refunds work.

Content Guidelines

Atlanta Koreatown is read by families. Creatives that don’t fit the magazine’s tone or our community standards will be rejected on review and automatically refunded.

Allowed

  • Korean restaurants, cafes, bakeries
  • Korean and Asian groceries / specialty retail
  • Local services: clinics, dental, optometry, chiropractic, law, accounting, real estate
  • Educational services: Korean-language schools, tutoring, music / art classes
  • Cultural events: concerts, festivals, gallery exhibitions, churches (events only, not proselytizing creatives)
  • Community-relevant brands: Korean media, beauty, fashion, electronics

Not Allowed (creative will be rejected and refunded)

  • Alcohol — beer, wine, soju, makgeolli, cocktails, drinking culture, ABV mentions, "drink pairings"
  • Tobacco — cigarettes, cigars, vapes / e-cigarettes, hookah, chewing tobacco
  • Cannabis / marijuana / CBD-as-recreational
  • Gambling, sports betting, lottery promotion
  • Adult content, dating apps targeting affairs, escort services
  • Get-rich-quick schemes, MLM recruiting, crypto airdrops
  • Predatory financial products (payday loans, debt-buying)
  • Political campaigns and electoral advocacy (talk to us separately — different terms apply)
  • Anything that misrepresents itself as editorial content, looks like a fake notification, or hides the brand identity

Image Guidelines

File formats
JPG, PNG, WebP. No GIF/animation, no auto-play video.
Resolution
At least 2× the rendered size on retina displays. Sharp text, no compression artifacts.
Aspect ratio
Match the placement size (see /advertise for sizes per slot).
Branding
Brand name or logo clearly visible. No fake UI chrome (false buttons, fake notifications).
Color tone
Recommended: cream/beige/dark green/white palette to match the site. Highly saturated banners read as noise.
Maximum file size
300 KB (we re-compress server-side anyway).

Review Process

  1. 1You submit a creative via the /ad/apply wizard and pay.
  2. 2Payment is captured by Stripe immediately — but the placement does NOT go live yet.
  3. 3An admin reviews the banner image, click-through URL, and ad title against these guidelines.
  4. 4Typical review window: less than 1 business day.
  5. 5Approved → the placement automatically goes live and starts collecting impressions.
  6. 6Rejected → the underlying Stripe subscription is canceled immediately and a refund is issued automatically.

Refund & Cancellation

Pre-approval rejection
Full refund. Triggered automatically when an admin rejects the creative.
Cancellation by you
Cancel any time in the Customer Portal. By default the placement keeps running until the end of the current billing period — no proration.
Payment failure
Stripe retries the charge per its standard dunning schedule. You have 14 days to update the card; after that the placement is paused.
Disputed charge
Goes through Stripe arbitration. Please reach out first — most disputes are resolved by clarifying review notes.
Site outage
If the placement is unavailable for >24h due to our infrastructure, we credit the affected days on the next invoice.

Subscription Terms

  • Monthly auto-renewal until canceled.
  • Stripe Customer Portal handles all payment method changes and cancellations — no email-the-admin needed.
  • Annual prepay with 20% discount is on the roadmap (Phase 2). Until then, all plans are monthly.
  • Tier and locale can be changed mid-cycle via Customer Portal "switch plans" — Stripe prorates the difference.
